Professional Ecological Design Intensive

What You Will Learn:

  • Natural systems thinking and Permaculture principles for use in design.
  • Reading and understanding landscape and ecological patterns.
  • Site assessment best practices for gathering information about the landscape prior to design.
  • Use of a good base map and simple base map creation for landscape projects.
  • Use of design technology like Google earth, Adobe illustrator, AutoCAD and more. (Note: please understand that in a one-week intensive like this there’s no way we can teach you to be proficient on any of these technologies. This serves as an introduction to their use and integration with the professional landscape design process.)
  • Drafting designs by hand and the use of landscape graphics for presentation.
  • Best practices for managing a paid design service and process.
  • Best practices for providing professional ecological design consultations for clients.
  • During the course of this project participants will be expected to design a project in a group setting and present it to the class.
